Tis the season for new collections from some of our favorite manufacturers. This week at the annual Craft and Hobby Association trade show one of our favorite manufacturers released some beautiful collections. The By the Sea Collection from My Mind's Eye is one of my favorites. I love travel collections, especially nautical themed ones - and this one is awesome. I was so excited to get a few samples to create today's Mid Week Mojo I was also able to pull out some old photos of my kids playing on the beach in Santa Monica 12 or so years ago. If you ever thought time flies... well anyway, I had to turn this one into a double-pager.

Here is the layout:

Dear Lizzy Fine & Dandy | Monday Craft Madness #1

Posted by Melodee Cloud

Each new year it feels like a party, a time to start over, a time to celebrate the previous year. As scrapbookers and paper-crafters, we love to make our own party decorations (we may not always have the time but we love to do it). Today for Monday Craft Madness we get to see how American Crafts design team member Gina Lideros used the Dear Lizzy Fine & Dandy collection to make her own home-made party decorations..... So today's theme is:

5 New Years Resolutions Every Scrapbooker Can Handle

Each year when we make our resolutions we make lofty goals and never seem to keep them. For me, it happens especially with my scrapbooking resolutions. Always keep a clean work space, never buy more than I know I will use – these are just a couple of resolutions I have broken in years past. We wanted to share with you a few smaller resolutions that we can all handle. Check them out below:

1. Tell the stories that matter most.
It seems we can create scrapbooks for big events; birthdays, weddings, etc. Focus your scrapbooking this year on the little every day moments that matter most - when your baby did the ‘touchdown’ sign for the first time, when your 3 year old tore open a feather pillow and made it snow, when your 15 year old still hugs you.

2. Journal more.
Scrapbook pages don’t really need to have photos. Sometimes a page written as a love letter, a resolution list, or a favorites list can be a page in your book. With all the new planner products on the market, this resolution can be easy to keep. Write down something special each day or each week, transfer those thoughts into your scrapbook. If you need some journaling supplies, steal some here.

3. Make the time.
We all know that our craft makes us happy, that’s why we started scrapbooking in the first place. It always gets put on the back burner of our lives. Work, kids, husbands, groceries, laundry, etc etc etc all get in the way of us spending the time working on our craft. Give yourself a couple hours a week to scrapbook. I know it’s hard, really hard, but it’s also always rewarding when you complete a project.

4. Catch up on your albums.
This is a resolution that seems so daunting. I figured out a trick a couple of years ago that has helped me stick to this resolution. Scrapbook the most recent events and photos first. I would run away from my craft table thinking about the years of photos and events I still needed to scrapbook. Then after a family vacation, I scrapbooked those photos as soon as we got home and continued from there. I was always ‘caught up’ and then I could go back and get older photos and events later.

5. Make a page goal, then give yourself a reward.
When I was young we had a chart for reading during the summer. If we read 100 pages, we got to choose a candy bar, if we read 250 pages lunch at McDonald’s, 500 pages was a trip to the ice cream parlor and so on. Do the same for yourself and your scrapbooking. Make a goal of completing 20 layouts and 10 cards for a treat, a really good treat.

When you make resolutions that benefit you so much you want to keep them, it’s easier to stick to them. This year, let yourself off the hook and commit to making resolutions that you can’t afford not to keep. Pick up all of your supplies at a steal here, and repeat after us...
