How To 'sday | Nesting Dies

Posted by Melodee Cloud

Today we have a How To sday from our design team member Kristy MacKeen. I love Nesting Dies but have never tried them. I am thrilled for this How To so I can give them a try!

Hi all! Happy Tuesday! I’m so excited to be here today for my first How To-sday as part of the Design Team.

Today I thought I would show how to use nesting dies. I often use them to cut out stamped images. But what about using them for creating frames? You can see what I mean here in this card:

kristy-mackeen-nesting-frames-Hows-To.jpgIn Step 1, I found the die that was the closest size to my stamped image. Step 2 shows the same die, plus the one the next size larger in the set, ready to be cut. After running it through my Big Shot, I got the frame plus the cut out you see in Step 3. I am saving the cut out for another project. After using some pop dots on the back of the frame, I adhered it to the scrap paper I had stamped the image on and cut it out using scissors in Step 4. The dots gave it just that little lift off the page and dimension that made it stand out!

I also wanted to show you could use this same procedure for highlighting a title or creating a journaling block, as I did on this layout:

To make this frame, I grabbed 3 scalloped ovals that were next to each other in the nested set. I used the largest and smallest to make the frame. I used the middle sized die to cut out the oval for my title – that was just to make sure I had the right positioning for my letters.
